MELTING POINT ANALYSIS (noun)

 

The act of determining the melting point of a solid substance by slowly heating up a sample in a melting point apparatus and noting both the temperature at which the sample begins to melt, and the temperature at which all of the sample has melted. The resulting values give the melting point range: the smaller the range, the higher the purity of the sample.
