REDUCTION (noun)

 

A reaction in which an atom, ion, or molecule gains electrons from a reducing agent. The opposite of reduction is oxidation.

Example: Cu⁰ + Zn²⁺ Cu²⁺ + Zn⁰; here Zn²⁺ is being reduced by the reducing agent Cu⁰.
