Qualitative Analysis for Metallic Elements

Qualitative analysis determines the presence or absence of a particular metal ion.

Quantitative analysis determines how much of a given substance is present.

There are three stages involved in qualitative analysis :

• Separate the ions into broad groups, based on solubility properties.
• Separate the individual ions within each group by selectively dissolving membranes in the group.
• Identify the ions by specific tests.
