Group Research

Ligand Development for Applications in Catalysis.
My group has been actively collaborating with Prof.
Derek Gates, and we are developing an exciting novel
pi-accepting ligand class. We expect that this ligand
set will be of broad utility in catalysis.
Metal Catalyzed Cyclizations. Our group is
interested in metal catalyzed cyclization
reactions typically involving enamine derivatives
as nucleophiles. More information is
available in this downloadable pdf file.
Natural Product Total Synthesis. We maintain an active interest in the total synthesis of natural products. We pursue both “target-directed” total synthesis projects (where no methodology development for the target has previously been examined in my group) and “methods-driven” synthesis to showcase key reactions that have been developed in the group. More information is available in this downloadable pdf file.

Chemistry of Enamides and Related Compounds.
A number of projects have focused on the reactivity of enamides and related functional groups (enecarbamates, enesulfonamides). These functional groups can act as nucleophiles under transition metal catalysis. We have also used these functional groups as precursors to electrophiles that undergo ring-expansion chemistry.
