WORK TIMELINE:

2005-present, Research Associate, Dept. Of Chem., UBC, Canada

2004-2005, Postdoctoral Fellow, Dept. of Chem., UBC, Canada

2002-2004, Postdoctoral Research Associate, Dept. of Phys., Texas A&M University,

Ph.D. in Physics, 2001, Dept. of Phys., Texas A&M University.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Mass Spectrometry, Ion Trapping and Vacuum Systems-

At the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada:

The focus of my work is on how to achieve higher mass resolution with linear quadrupoles with purposely added hexapole, octopole, and/or other multipole fields. This involves theoretical analysis, computer simulations, and experimental work.

As a Research Associate, I also participate in the other projects in the lab by assisting other people with their projects and keeping the instruments running.

At Texas A&M University (TAMU), USA:

Developed a linear geometry rf quadrupole ion trap apparatus. Assembled and operated the vacuum system using foreline mechanical, turbomolecular, and ion getter pumps (operated at 10-10 mbar background pressure).

Used the trap apparatus in mass spectrometry and laser spectroscopy measurements of fullerene and magnesium ions.

Some experience at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory ion beam facility (charge exchange experiments).

  • Lasers and Optics-

Have experience working with Ar+ ion lasers, ring Ti:Sapphire lasers, ring dye lasers including complete alignment; also have experience in pulsed YAG lasers, pulsed Nitrogen lasers and semiconductor lasers etc.. Have experience with a variety of other optics equipment used in a laser optics/atomic physics lab.

Have Developed an external enhancement cavity to frequency double the 560 nm dye laser beam to obtain 280 nm beam for laser spectroscopy of Magnesium ions.

Have experience in photorefractive nonlinear optics area and its applications to aerosol particle sizing.

Have Experience in Integrating Cavity Absorption Meter (ICAM) and using ICAM to the measurement of pure water absorption.
